`Stationary' in motion
Article Abstract:
Reclining upholstery manufacturers have introduced motion upholstery designs imitated from stationary styles to entice a different breed of consumers into purchasing their products. The product category, which posted an estimated $2.5 billion at retail in 1998, is projected to rise about 5% to $2.6 billion retail for 1999. The manufacturers hope that the designs will compensate for the levelling of the category's growth, which saw double-digit growth in the mid-1980s.
